Literature & School – Empowering a Legion of Readers

Literature: whenever we hear this word, countless concepts seem to come to mind. But why has its importance been more emphasized than ever before? The answer comes up as we recognize today’s world as a mix of historically designed circumstances that have influenced writers to pen in view of each era’s factors of influence.

Besides describing cultural aspects of different periods of history, Literature has also been a useful tool in rebuilding a sense of collectiveness in our society, which can be strengthened by readers as the reasons why certain happenings occurred are understood and multiple opinions are analyzed–at this point, teaching Literature is expected to be seen under a challenging perspective whose mission involves not giving students lots of random information, but encouraging them to re-conceptualize every literary experience instead.

3 – If possible, make Literature classes more interactive

To motivate interaction is to give the classroom multiple meanings, which stimulates students to comprehend the deep relationship between Literature and other subjects. Consequently, investing on interactive resources is the key to make classes less stressful and help to deal with today’s need for dynamic methods.

From short fables to Byron’s unforgettable poems: no matter what literary genre is taken into consideration, spectacularly diverse backgrounds can be found as discussions about Literature become more frequent in the classroom, which demonstrates that the evolution of the written word is an endless cycle whose renovation depends on educators’ accurate perceptions. As a conclusion, it is recommended that teachers associate as many aspects of Literature as possible with students’ lives so that, after making sure that parents are participating in the process, many achievements can be successfully reached.
